Hollybank
Barbecue Picnic - Sat. 27th February 2016
This "walk" requires very little effort! We decided we would have a
"bring your own" barbecue picnic day at
Hollybank because it will enable people who are no longer able to
participate on even the moderate bushwalks, as well as families with very young
children, to join us and enjoy a pleasant time together.
For this one, you can make your own arrangements to get to Hollybank,
but still call the leader if you need to arrange transport. Suggested
that people arrive from 11 am, and after lunch, stay as long as you
like. At Hollybank, we will meet at the barbecue area on left side at
the northern end of the circuit road. Your leader will be happy to take
you on a short
circuit walk (about 2 km in total) along formed tracks to the lovely
pool at the junction of Piper’s River and Butcher's Creek, or you can
just wander and chat! There are other activities at Hollybank including
the Treetops Adventure (subject to availability - bookings required),
and it is also suitable for bike riding. These activities would not be
supervised by Boots N' All leaders, and parents are fully responsible
for their children if making use of these opportunities. If bringing
children, you may wish to bring along sport or recreational equipment
suited to the area.
There are several websites with information about Hollybank Forest
Reserve, including

Walk route:
The circuit track heads north from close to the barbecues before
swinging south and gradually descending to a junction close to the
river. After visiting the pool, you can follow the track further south
with a shorter or longer option, to eventually return to the roads.
Meeting Times and Places:
If you are interested in going on this picnic, you can choose to just
turn up on the day, or phone Andrew Madden on 6399 3315
to book in. (If you leave a message on his answering machine, he will
return your call). As mentioned, we will meet near the gas barbecues.
Andrew will be there earlier to make sure we have use of a barbecue, but
suggested you arrive 11 am onwards. If you have arranged transport
through Andrew or with another driver, please be at any meeting place 5 minutes
ahead of departure time.
To access this area from northern Tasmania:
From Launceston, head north along Invermay Road and follow Georgetown
Road to Rocherlea and turn right into Lilydale Road (B81). Continue
about 13 km from the junction and shortly
past the junction of Karoola Rd, turn right, then left into
Hollybank Road. The reserve boundary is about 400 metres further.
Warnings:
No warnings as such.
Please take note of the weather forecast on the day. Be aware of
possible hazards such as insect bites and snakes.
Take drinking water and clothing suited to the weather.
