Tamar Island –
Sunday
18th November 2018
Just to break our normal routine, and to give people a chance to join us
for a short and leisurely walk at a peaceful wetlands area on the very
edge of the city with plenty of bird life to observe, this
Sunday afternoon walk begins at the Tamar Island Wetlands Centre, not
much more than a kilometre from the last traffic lights at Riverside.
After exploring the visitor centre, follow the boardwalk past wildlife
viewing points, tidal branches of the Tamar River, historic scuttled
vessels and hundreds of birds to the island itself. Total return walk
distance is 4 km. For more details, see
https://www.parks.tas.gov.au/file.aspx?id=19983
Note that an entry fees apply: adult/child/family
$3/2/6
The boarded walkway to the island is level and will suit some wheelchair
users and those with prams and strollers. Tracks on the island have
natural surfaces and are generally not suited for wheelchairs.
This walk, rated "Family-easy", is suitable for families with young
children who could turn back if the distance proved too much. Water and
perhaps a snack should be carried, and normal precautions
should be taken against cold and rain.
