Swan Point
Sunday afternoon
10th November 2024
Enjoy a stroll beside the sea at Swan Point, weaving between bush, wetlands and beach. Many flowers also line the narrow track with plenty of bird life to spot along the way.
Walk Notes:
Starting at the end of Swan Pt Esplanade, the track tacks us along the northern tip of Swan Point looking out across the wetlands to the Tamar River. After a 1km we will be at Paper beach. There is a toilet here and a small playground. We will continue along the beach and onto the track for another 1.5km until we reach the southwest end of the track. We will then return by the same direction. The track is considered an easy route and dogs are welcome on a lead. However, the narrow track and beach sections will make it hard for prams so small children may need carrier options.
Meeting Times and Places:
If you are interested in going on this walk, please phone Dan Hutchison on 0457 765 907 to book in. We will be meeting at the end of Swan Pt Esplanade at 2pm.
Unlike the regular Boots N’ All walks which often visit more challenging wilderness areas, there is no particular need to register in advance for these Sunday afternoon Family Fun Walks. Your walk leader would nevertheless appreciate if you could let him know you are coming, so that the walk doesn’t set off without you.
Other Information:
These Sunday afternoon walks do not require the level of preparation and equipment needed for wilderness walks. Dress comfortably and sensibly, and remember that even over a 2 hour period, weather can be changeable in northern Tasmania, so it’s always a great idea to have a warm top and a raincoat in your backpack, along with a drink and perhaps a snack.
Yes, we know… Parents of very young children often have to carry a lot more, including children in backpacks! Hopefully your fellow walkers will offer to share the burden! The track is narrow and although the grass and shrubs have been cleared in sections, some remains. It is recommended to wear trousers or gaiters to avoid getting cuts or grass seeds.
If you need transport, please discuss with the leader, who may be able to connect you with someone attending from your area. Please be at any meeting place 5 minutes ahead of the listed time. It is also courtesy to let the leader know if you have changed plans and are no longer coming.
