Coming up this weekend is the next Boots N’ All foray to Blue Peaks – part of the alpine expanse of the central plateau south of Mole Creek. Under ideal conditions, expect extensive views of the plateau and south towards the Walls of Jerusalem. If the weather isn’t so kind, you can still experience beautiful tarns, pencil pines and the bracing alpine air and study the attached photo!
Although the summit is 1345m above sea level, the car park at Lake MacKenzie is at 1100m, and most of the walk is over fairly gentle gradients. The track is rocky in some places and muddy in others, but presents no great challenges for the moderately fit walker. The walk is approximately 4.5 km each way.
Warnings:
E Exposed alpine conditions – can be dangerous in poor weather if not fully equipped (You must be equipped for poor conditions even if the weather forecast is promising).
M Marshy or muddy sections – be prepared to walk with wet feet.

Meeting Times and Places:
Departure from Door of Hope car park is at 7:30 am. Next meeting place is at Mole Creek near toilets 8:30 am, then Devil’s Gullet turnoff 8:45 am. However, you still need to contact the walk leader, John Tabor on 6428 6512 if intending to walk. The leader should be notified of any other people you intend to bring along. Do not contact me if intending to do the walk. You should always contact the walk leader if intending to participate in a particular Boots N’ All walk.
Blue Peaks is accessed as follows: From Mole Creek, continue west approx. 3.5 km, then turn south into Liena Rd. as though heading for King Solomon’s Caves. About 10 km on, turn south onto Mersey Forest Rd. After 5 km, turn left on to Lake MacKenzie Rd. (gravel) and follow it to its end at Lake MacKenzie dam (approx. 17 km).
