With a promising weather forecast for the long weekend, the walk this Saturday is a camping trip to Tasmania’s world famous Bay of Fires coastal wilderness (well, a fair bit of it is “civilised” by holiday homes and fishing retreats!).
As mentioned, this is a camping trip, but you won’t need to carry your tent all day with camping taking place at Swimcart Beach.
Just to make sure you get at least a short climb, walkers will be ascending South Sister near St. Marys on the way through.
Walking on the rest of the weekend will be in the coastal area, and the length or difficulty will be by negotiation with the leader, Chris Langerak. There’s even the possibility that the less energetic or able could volunteer to mind the campsite while others do the exercise! Swimcart Beach wouldn’t be too great a hardship for that scenario!
There is a national park toilet at the camping site.
Warnings:
Water! There is no fresh water at the campsite, so please bring along a plentiful supply in sturdy containers for your camping and walking needs (4 litres or more per person per day suggested).

Departure from Door of Hope car park is at 8:00 am. Discuss any other meeting places with Chris.
As always, the leader should be notified of any other people you intend to bring along.You should always contact the walk leader if intending to participate in a particular Boots N’ All walk. Do not contact me (Basil) if intending to do the walk.
South Sister is accessed from St. Mary’s. Proceed 4 km north along Germantown Rd. Turn right about 200 metres before Lorhey’s Rd. and drive just under 2 km (keeping right) which will bring you within 300 metres of summit.
Bay of Fires (Swimcart Beach) is reached from a turnoff from Binalong Bay Rd. into Gardens Rd. approx. 7 km after leaving St. Helens.
Map details: (most good touring maps will have the main roads) South Sister is on map 8514 in the 1:100000 series and on the Dublin Town map in the 1:25000 maps. The Gardens area is on map 8515 in the 1:100000 series and on the Binalong map in the 1:25000 maps.
South Sister is listed in the Ultimate Tasmanian Peaks List(AKA High Places of Tasmania v2). This particular walk does not include any peaks on the Hobart Walking Club Peakbagger’s Guide.
