You are invited to attend the Boots N’ All walk on Sat. 12th April which will explore the Lea River area from Lk. Gairdner, and up to Mt. Stormont with views to north and to Cradle Mt. This walk is rated “medium” and is suitable for walkers who have had some experience with alpine conditions including off-track walking over low alpine vegetation and some patches of bush. A very old cairn at the summit was possibly built by early explorer Henry Hellyer, whose cairn 12 km further west at Prospect Mt. on the Black Bluff Range is recognised as the oldest intact piece of evidence of European colonisation in the western half of Tasmania. If you are interested in going on this walk, please phone your walk leader, Graham Alexander, Ph. [snip] or mobile [snip] to book in. The departure time is 7:30am from the Door of Hope Church car park, Launceston. Suggested meeting places if coming from elsewhere could be Sheffield at Claude Rd. turnoff at 8:20 am or Moina at 8:45 am.
If you would like to arrange to meet the group at these places or elsewhere, please arrange with leader. Please be at any meeting place 5 minutes ahead of departure time. However, you still need to contact the walk leader, Graham Alexander, per details above if intending to walk. The leader should be notified of any other people you intend to bring along.

Walk route:
From gate at Lake Gairdner near Moina, we drive up logging roads south for just over 3 km, gaining 200m altitude. At end of the road, we walk south, gaining a further 100 metres over the next 1 km before a steep south-west climb, gaining 150 metres over the next 500 metres. The route levels off and continues south-west, reaching the summit after another 800 metres, with a further 70 metre rise.
To access this area from northern Tasmania: Roads to Cradle Mt. are well signposted, and the area can be accessed from several directions. From Sheffield, go south along Claude Rd through Gowrie Park and westward down into the Forth Valley (now Cethana Rd.), continuing up the other side to Moina. Turn south into Cradle Mt. Rd. After approx. 1 km, turn right and follow Moina Rd. about 4 km to arrive at the shore of Lk. Gairdner (Not Lk. Gairdner Rd which starts in Moina almost opposite Cethana Rd). The gate and logging road mentioned above are situated at the western end of the lake.
