This Saturday’s Boots N’ All walk is to the Dazzler Range, which is located south of the Asbestos Range in the hill country between the lower Tamar Valley and Port Sorell.
The walk is mainly on old roads/ fourwheel drive tracks with short wanders off track through open forest to high points and includes a visit to a fire tower. There are extensive views of the Tamar and Port Sorell areas. The walk is not long, rated “medium” and is suitable for walkers, including children, who have had some experience with tracks of varying quality and able to keep going for sustained distances.
While not an exposed alpine area, at this time of year, conditions can become wet and windy, so walkers should carry warm clothes and a waterproof rain jacket or coat. Sturdy shoes and gloves are recommended, and each person should carry a litre of water. Long term forecast for Saturday is for a shower or two in Port Sorell area.
Meeting Times and Places:
If you are interested in going on this walk, please phone your walk leader, Kent Lillico, ph.0428 451 528 to book in. The departure times are 7:30am from the Door of Hope Church car park, Launceston; Turners Beach 7:45am. The meeting place for groups from north and north-west at approximately 8:30am is at the junction of the B71 Frankford Road (sometimes called Exeter Highway) and the turnoff to Narawantapu/Bakers Beach c740 which is called Bakers Beach Rd. This junction is about 200 metres east of the Franklin Rivulet bridge at the southern end of Port Sorell.
If you would like to arrange to meet the group at these places or elsewhere, please arrange with leader. Please be at any meeting place 5 minutes ahead of departure time. However, you still need to contact the walk leader, Phil Dawson, per details above if intending to walk. The leader should be notified of any other people you intend to bring along.

Walk route:
The actual route of the day’s walk will depend on roads that may or may not be open on the day, so we are unable to provide a detailed route. The waypoints in the attached files (see below) indicate the main road junctions and the meeting place (Bakers Beach Rd), as well as the northern, middle and southern parts of the range. The top of the range is approx. 500 metres above sea level, but the altitude of the point at which the cars will be left is unclear – perhaps at about 300 metres alt.
To access this area from northern Tasmania: From Launceston, take the West Tamar Hwy through Riverside to Exeter (about 22km). Turn left into Frankford Rd. (B71) and continue through Frankford (16 km from Exeter) and approx. 20 km further, to the Baker’s Beach Rd. junction where Kent will meet you at approx. 8:30 am.
