Montana Falls & Deloraine Wild Wood – Sat. 20th June 2026
Montana Falls is one of Tasmania’s more easily accessed waterfalls and is quite close to Deloraine yet it seems to be rarely visited and not well known. To your leader’s knowledge it has never been on a Boots ‘n’ All programme in the past. It is quite an easy walk – about 2.5 km return on a well-marked track with minimal climbing – less than 100m altogether. It should take us less than 1½ hours even allowing for time to explore and take photographs. We will plan to do the Montana Falls walk in the afternoon.
In the morning we will explore the Wild Wood loop. This is an interesting forest walk right in Deloraine town. One of our Boots ‘n’ All leaders in times past, John Tabor, has been quite involved in the development of this walk and hopes to join us in the morning to give us some background and then help guide us through this short walk. It is only about 2 km and is relatively flat along a good track.
The two walks are rated easy, and will be suitable for reasonably active adults and children.
Meeting Times and Places
The departure time is 9:30 am from Door of Hope car park in Launceston. This should have us arriving at the Wild Wood parking area at the Deloraine Apex Caravan Park on West Parade at around 10.00 am, so as to begin the walk around 10.15. After completing the Wild Wood walk we will probably have time to explore the Meander River at Deloraine. Then we will have lunch in the area, so please bring a picnic lunch with you.
After lunch we will drive along Mole Creek Road, then Montana Road and finally Leonards Rd to the car park for the Montana Falls walk. We should be ready to begin this walk by around 1.15 pm, getting back to the cars between 2.30 and 3. This should have us arriving back in Launceston before 4.

To access this area from northern Tasmania: From Launceston, head towards Deloraine on the Bass Highway (50 km) and take the first (eastern) turn from the highway into Deloraine. Continue into the town, across the Meander River bridge, and turn left into West Parade, immediately after the bridge. Continue for 500 metres to the entrance of Apex Caravan park on left. Even though there is a “no visitors cars past this point” sign, this doesn’t include user of the swimming pool and Wild Wood track, so drive in and turn right. The meeting place and start of the track are less than 100 metres further along.
